Dáil To Debate Bill Which Would Give Nearly 800,000 People Working From Home Right To Disconnect

Labour Party proposals require employers to provide a suitable home workstation for staff, and a single flat rate payment to cover the added costs of home working.

Numbers working from home have quadrupled due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Labour Senator Marie Sherlock, who drew up the Bill, says people feel like they're always working:

"People having to work on the edge of the bed, a failure by some employers to adequately provide equipment, and of course, what we have understood in terms of- and this is happening right across Europe- that workers who are working from home tend to work longer hours, get fewer rest breaks, and that there is that corrosive mental and physical health impact of feeling like you're always on."
