The Dáil will debate laws to bring back mandatory hotel quarantine this morning.
The Government is looking to pass all stages of the Health Amendment Bill in a single day.
Spurred by the potential threat posed by the Omicron variant the Government is looking to bring back the power to make people coming from certain countries quarantine in hotels.
While there are no plans to add any countries to that list for the moment, Ministers want the ability to do so if needed.
The rules will be similar to last time - with people required to enter quarantine which they can leave with a negative PCR test after ten days.
People who try to break out of hotel quarantine could face a fine of up to 2,000 euro or a month in prison.
The new laws will be temporary, lasting for three months after they pass.
However, the Oireachtas will be able to extend that for a further three months if needed.
The Government will take the unusual step of trying to fully pass these laws through the Dáil in a single day, before sending them to the Seanad tomorrow.
Opposition TDs have hit out at the Government guillotining debate on the issue.
But Taoiseach Micheál Martin has said they know exactly what's in the bill as the Oireachtas passed it before, saying it's not the third secret of Fatima.
