Debenhams staff mount blockade at back of Patrick St store

Cork Debenhams staff have mounted a blockade at the back of the Patrick St store amid fears the firm are attempting to take cash from the facility.

The workers who have just finished a lunchtime protest outside Bank of Ireland on the South Mall say their trade union Mandate issued strike action and any cash in the Patrick St store should be kept there and could even used to pay some of their redundancy, which they fear they won't receive.

330 workers at the retailers' stores at Patrick Street and Mahon Point have lost their jobs after the department store announced it was closing 11 stores in Ireland.

Speaking to RedFM News former Cork Debenhams employee Madeline Whelan says any money in the store is there since before the COVID19 outbreak and this latest move is another insult to the workers:
