Debenhams Workers In Cork Say They Are Trying To Stay Positive And Focus On Their Jobs Being Saved

Staff are holding a day of action tomorrow

Workers will gather outside City Hall tomorrow and hand in letters to TD's offices as part of a day of action aimed at drawing attention to their plight

Debenhams has already informed its 1500 staff members in Ireland that it is insolvent and unable to pay it's debts and doesn't expect its Irish stores to reopen .

The staff are appealing to the State to intervene as they believe that over half of the stores are profitable and the online business is still active

Workers say with initiatives such as the €6.5 billion fund for businesses, possible rent reductions to help make stores viable, and a possible warehousing of taxes owed then Debenhams stores could remain open

Speaking to RedFM News shop steward at Debenhams Cork Valerie Conlon says they have to remain hopeful
