A disease expert says Ireland must vaccinate children to reach herd immunity from Covid.
From today, 25 to 29 year olds can register for a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, as the rollout accelerates.
75 per cent of the adult population has now received a first dose.
But University College Cork professor Gerry Killeen says under 18s must also be protected:
"The more we know about Long Covid, the worst the picture gets. It's probably the big negative outcome that will come out of this phase of the pandemic. We should just all be really careful about that, particularly for young people who have their whole lives ahead of them. You know, why gamble with that?"
