The Minister of State for the Office of Public Works, Patrick O'Donovan has today announced €3m in Government funding for Dublin Zoo and Fota Wildlife Park.
The funding will be divided between the two institutions, with €2m going to Dublin Zoo and €1m going to Fota Wildlife Park.
The figures will allow both facilities to continue with capital projects already commenced.
Management at Fota Wildlife Park say that the park is worth €200 million to the local economy every year and the funding will boost not just the park itself, which has seen a 20% drop in visitor numbers due to the pandemic, but also the entire region as the park has a knock on effect for others in the hospitality sector as it attracts people to the region.
