An education expert believes the Leaving Cert could be altered slightly to relieve some of the pressure on students.

The exams could end up running until early September due to COVID-19 restrictions, according to the Irish Times.

Currently, it's hoped the Leaving Cert will be held in late July or early August.

Former headmaster at St Andrew's College in Dublin, Arthur Godsil, says issues around broadband and access to devices could lead to courses not being completed.

"I think the only way to mitigate these difficulties to provide greater choice on the papers themselves, and hopefully that can be the case.

"The papers probably don't have to be changed, but perhaps the instructions and so on.

"That might alleviate some of the stress of students."
