Students will get more choice on the papers they sit next June.
There'll also be a second sitting of the exams to cater for anyone who might miss out first time around.
Minister Norma Foley says there's no intention to keep a calculated grades element:
"We're not currently looking at the accredited grade system. We are making provision for a second season of the exam. But, I suppose if we've learned anything throughout the pandemic, we've learned of the need to constantly review, to constantly be flexible and resilient. So we will meet the situation as we find it."
