Anyone aged over 16 who's eligible for a Covid-19 booster can get one from today.
The acceleration in the vaccination programme comes amid record infection rates and concern at its impact on the hospital system.
Bernadette Jameson reports for RedFM News:
"From today, designated HSE vaccination centres are offering booster doses to all of those aged 16 and older who are eligible, on an appointment only basis.
Appointments can be made online, and GPs and community pharmacies are also providing this service.
Those aged 16 to 29 will be offered the Pfizer booster, while those aged over 30 will be offered Moderna.
The Moderna jab is not suitable for those aged under 30.
The accelerated rollout of the booster comes in light of a major surge in cases of Covid-19 over the Christmas and New Year period.
Yesterday, 23,281 new cases of Covid-19 were reported, the highest daily total to date."
