The Covid pandemic has reduced life expectancy, according to new Eurostat research.
86% of EU regions recorded a drop in expected lifespan between 2019 and 2020.
The largest reductions were seen in Spain and Italy, with little change on islands such as Crete and Madeira.
Life expectancy has risen by more than two years per decade since the 1960s.
