Fianna Fáil's calling for meat factories to be closed until staff have tested negative for Covid-19.
There are at least 12 outbreaks in plants across the country - and more than 550 cases.
Fianna Fáil says all staff in meat factories should be tested even if they have no symptoms of the virus.
Agriculture spokesman Charlie McConalogue says test results must be very prompt.
"The outbreaks are simply not going to get under control unless in my view when testing happens the factory is closed down until such time as staff get results back and can return, and there can be deep cleans [of the plants].
"It's critical that those results are back as soon as possible so those close downs can be very short."
