A Government TD has said any pandemic bonus should be extended to Gardaí, ambulance staff and healthcare assistants in nursing homes.
Ministers are working on plans to reward those who were on the front lines of the pandemic.
The plans are likely to include an extra Bank Holiday and could also involve extra pay or holidays for some workers.
Fine Gael TD Fergus O'Dowd believes that should extend beyond healthcare staff - and Gardaí should get something.
"Of course they should, and so should ambulance workers, and so should healthcare assistants in nursing homes.
"There's a huge amount of people who gave their all, and put themselves at huge risk just to get us through the pandemic."
