A Cork based fish producers organisation says immediate action needs to be taken if any member of a fishing crew suspects they are ill.
It's after it emerged half the crew of a Spanish fishing boat that docked in Castletownbere last month tested positive for Covid-19 just days later.
The crew of the Notre Dame Cedeira were tested after the boat's captain fell ill shortly after landing their catch in the West Cork town on the 21st of April. Eight of the 15 crew were later found to have the virus.
The crew of the boat did not go ashore while they were in Castletownbere, however they did come into contact with a number of people involved in the fishing industry while docked.
Speaking to RedFM News, Patrick Murphy from the Irish South and West Fish Producers Organisation outlines the procedure for crews landing at Irish ports.
"In these times if somebody is sick on board the vessel and has temperatures and everything like this, there's a suspicion there.
"But for the health authorities here, there's a health declaration filled by the crew and the skipper before they're allowed to land.
"If there is a temperature or something on board, then they;e meant to take up a mooring until the health authorities can come down and test the crew."
