Former Minister Michael Creed has said he's not convinced new restrictions on travel are proportionate.
The Fine Gael TD told the Dáil he believes many people will be stopped from coming home for Christmas because of new testing rules.
From tomorrow people will need a negative antigen or PCR test to enter Ireland from overseas.
During a debate on bringing back Mandatory Hotel Quarantine Michael Creed said he's not sure the current response to the omicron variant is right.
"Having tried to come home from New York, Sydney, Ontario, wherever, and they don't have a clear test and they are by regulation and by the decision of this Government forced to stay out of this country for Christmas, I think that is something that is undesirable.
"I'm not convinced that this is a proportionate response."
