The Chief Medical Officer and Transport Minister will appear before the Transport Committee to discuss issues affecting the aviation sector.

The Government intends to have the EU traffic light system for international travel up and running by Sunday.

Under the plan, the ECDC will publish a weekly map that will show a country as Green, Red or orange.

People arriving into Ireland will have to follow different rules depending on what colour a country is.

When asked last night whether people will be able to return home from abroad for Christmas, CMO Dr Tony Holohan said all measures will be examined, but the case numbers would need to continue to drop over the coming weeks.

It's unlikely NPHET will advocate for the system given the current public health advice is to stay within 5 kilometres of your home and to not travel abroad.
