Government says it doesn't want to reinstate COVID19 restrictions so reopening has to be gradual

The government says it doesn't want to be forced to reinstate Covid-19 restrictions like other countries.

The lockdown measures will gradually ease over the space of three months from Monday.

About 1,500 retailers are preparing to open including garden centres and hardware stores.

Government official Liz Canavan is warning the reopening plan will be stopped if infections increase:
