The Tánaiste has said Ministers will wait and see what NPHET recommend before deciding on the future of pandemic business supports.
Health officials are meeting today with more restrictions on social interaction in the run up to Christmas being considered.
Last night Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil TDs called for the restoration of the wage subsidy scheme to higher levels for the hospitality sector.
Tánaiste Leo Varadkar says they won't make any decision before seeing what NPHET has to say.
"For the hospitality sector Christmas is essentially the harvest.
"It's a time when you essentially make money to get you through a tough period in the early part of the new year, and the government absolutely recognises that.
"But exactly what we do has to be targeted."
The Taoiseach meanwhile says it will likely be another two weeks before it's known if Omicron resists vaccines.
The first case of the new strain in Ireland was confirmed yesterday.
While it's feared Omicron could spread easier and be more resistant to vaccines, little is currently known about the variant.
But Taoiseach Micheal Martin says answers are expected shortly.
"Speaking to the President of the European Union Commission last evening, the basic message there was it will take the guts of three weeks from laast Thursday before scientists will have a comprehensive picture in respect of how infectious, how virulent and to what degree the new variant will escape vaccines."
