The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation is meeting the Health Minister about the Covid-19 crisis today.
Nurses account for nearly one in ten coronavirus cases, according to HSE figures.
Simon Harris says he wants to provide the sector with whatever support it needs to fight the pandemic.
"They're doing super work, and I want to talk to them about some of the practical approaches that we can take to help our nurses and midwives.
"Public health has led us well in this crisis, and will continue to lead us as we try, at an appropriate point, to ease some restrictions."
