Last night Leo Varadkar put strict new measure in place for the whole country in order to slow down the spread of the Coronavirus.
Individuals are now required to stay at home, only leaving the house to purchase groceries, visit the doctor, go to a pharmacy, travel to essential work and exercise is allowed within a 2km radius of your home. These new measures will stay in place until April 12th.
Those over the age of 70 and those who are medically vulnerable are being asked to 'cocoon'. These people should have food and medicine dropped to their doors and keep in touch with people over telephone or online. Supports will be put in place to help these individuals.
The government have now confirmed what is deemed as an 'essential service' and who is still permitted to work.
According to the new measures employers who are running an 'essential service' "should identify those employees (including sub-contractors and so on) who are essential to the provision of that service and notify them".
Employees who are travelling to such work "should at all times bring with you either a work identification or a letter from your employer indicating that you are an essential employee, as well as one other form of identification".
