Minister Simon Harris says the rule is likely to be dropped if that's what the public health advice is:
"It is the clear intention of the government not to wish to extend regulations unless there was a public health rationale to do so. The trajectory and the situation we find ourselves in and more broadly parts of the world find itself in relation to COVID is largely positive. We will see what the national public health emergency team recommends later today. I expect they will communicate their advice to government around the issue of facemasks today and the government will act swiftly on that."
