The health watchdog says there's still "a lot of unknowns" when it comes to rolling out antibody testing for Covid 19.
HIQA's been looking into proposals for blood tests which would inform someone if they'd previously been infected without realising it.
Deputy chief executive Dr Mairín Ryan says even if someone has developed antibodies, it's not clear if they can get the disease again.
"We don't have the evidence yet to be sure that even if you mount an antibody response does that confirm immunity, or can the person be reinfected - we don't know that yet.
"We also don't know that if you have the immune repose if it's adequate to protect you against the infection, or how long it will last."
