The HSE have confirmed that a number of residents at Clonakilty Community Hospital have died due to Covid-19.
A number of staff and resident have been tested as positive for Covid-19 at the nursing home and the HSE have confirmed an outbreak team have visited the hospital and continue to work with staff and management.
The HSE have offered their sincere condolences to the families of those who have passed away and say residents remain their number one priority.
Speaking to RedFM News, Cork South West TD Michael Collins says he wrote to the Health Minister after families complained about a lack of space at the hospital.
"The elderly in this situation are the most vulnerable, and we need to protect them in whatever manner that needs to be.
"I was hoping I would be able to get a more urgent reply from the Minister, and as of yet since Thursday the 9th of April I'm still waiting for a reply.
"We need an urgent reply because there's a very legitimate question that if there's an outbreak of Covid-19 in Clonakilty Community Hospital, how is the situation going to be dealt with, where there's large clusters of people in one room - were they able to segregate them and how is it going to happen?"
