The HSE says antigen testing has a part to play in controlling covid cases but other measures still have to be followed.
It’s after one immunologist said everyone should be taking them twice a week and they should be free.
3,726 covid cases were recorded yesterday, the highest figure since mid-January.
Dr Colm Henry from the HSE says antigen testing's just one tool in the fight against covid.
"We're certainly as part of a multi layered approach looking at all the other measures, measures that people have themselves, PCR tests, vaccination.
"It [antigen testing] has a part to play, and we're working with Mary Horgan's group, and seeing what recommendations in her group can be implemented."
