The Irish Farmers Association says it's important that measures are in place to protect worker in meat plants.

It's after two plants announced that some of staff have tested positive for Covid-19.

Rosderra Meats in Co. Tipperary says workers that have the virus are self-isolating, and all others have been tested, while Dawn Meats shut its plant in Kilbeggan, Co Westmeath, after four cases were confirmed.

IFA president Tim Cullinan says it's working with the HSE to ensure safe working conditions.

"We will adhere to whatever criteria is there and is set out by the HSE, we will work along with that.

"Most people within the plants are wearing the proper protective gear, and there is the social distancing which I know the industry is doing everything in their power to ensure that is happening within the plants.

"If all of that is adhered to I think we will be able to continue."
