The INMO have hit out at changes to rules around positive Covid cases and close contacts.

The union are calling on the Government to outline the impact of the new measures on the health service and have also raised concerns about the availability and affordability of higher grade masks and antigen tests.

Cabinet signed off on the new rules yesterday and they will come into effect at midnight tonight.

INMO General Secretary Phil Ní Sheaghdha has described the move as 'high risk' and says nurses and midwives need to be briefed on how the changes will impact their work.

Speaking to RedFM News, Liam Conway from the INMO in Cork says the potential for increased hospitalisations is the last thing their members need now:

"Members are extremely exhausted, and they've had two years of the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic, like the general public, but they have lived and breathed  COVID-19 throughout in terms of patient care. The Health Service is under massive pressure, our members under massive pressure underneath an abundance of caution and close monitoring of any changes to public advice at this time, And we do have deep concern, our members have deep concerns in relation to the changing of this public health advice."
