The group that represents auctioneers says loan approvals for mortgages should be extended for three months.
A similar measure has been introduced in the UK.
Pat Devitt from the Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers says there are concerns about a potential drop in prices.
He says extending the mortgage offer would give people more time to decide whether to go ahead with buying a home.
