Ireland is giving four times as much money to the World Health Organisation this year as it normally does.
Tánaiste Simon Coveney says the state will donate 9.5 million euro to help with the global response to Covid-19.
On Tuesday, the US pulled its funding to the organisation, because of its handling of the outbreak.
Meanwhile, Dr Mike Ryan, from the WHO, is urging countries to lift restrictions once the proper systems are in place.
"we must work really hard now to accelerate the investments we need in public health infrastructure, the community engagement and education, and having a hospital system capable of dealing with cases.
"If we do that we will be able to make our way out of these more draconian lockdowns, and this is something that the World Health Organisation wants so badly, along with the rest of the world."
