The Irish College of General Practitioners is welcoming the latest changes to the testing criteria for Covid-19.

It says from today those in a priority group, such as healthcare workers or older people, will only have to have one symptom, such as a fever or cough, to meet the case definition.

Previously they would have needed two.

President of the ICGP, Dr Mary Favier, says it's important more people are getting tested.

"As we approach next where we hope the lockdown scenario will be eased, we have to do a lot more testing and tracing to make sure the country stays on top of Covid-19 and this pandemic can come to an end."
