The Irish Medical Organisation is calling on the HSE to urgently address the long waiting lists for children's psychology services.
According to the latest figures, 3,200 kids have been waiting at least a year for treatment.
They include 460 children in Cork and Kerry, and 795 in Galway.
Dr Madeleine Ni Dhalaigh, from the IMO's GP committee, says kids are suffering as a result of the waiting times.
"BY the time a child comes to their GP and presents with distress, they've already been distressed for quite a while at that stage, and when we make referrals we don't do it lightly.
"We want the children to be seen in a timely manner."
