Work to prepare an isolation unit on the northside of the city has begun ahead of an expected increase in cases of Covid-19.

The Echo reports that contractors are working around the clock to convert a disused building at St Mary's Health Campus in Gurranabraher into an isolation building.

The building will require new insulation, doors and paint before it can be reopened.

The HSE are also said to be in the process of identifying empty buildings in towns across Cork
