'Significant' new measures are being announced by Taoiseach Mícheál Martin who say "we need to recommit ourselves to key behaviours and accept additional controls"
That briefing is on going but among the new measures being implemented are:
*Indoor gatherings limited to six people from three different households
*All sporting events take place behind closed doors -
* People from different households will be asked to wear face coverings if they are travelling in the same vehicle together.
* Anyone who is working from from will be asked to continue to do so.
*Avoid public transport where possible
* Outdoor gatherings -15 people.
* Pubs, cafes to remain open with closing times of 11.30.
* Over 70s asked to exercise individual judgement to limit interactions to small networks, to avoid public transport and to shop during designated hours.
The tightening of key restrictions is in place until September 13th.
