Mandate say they are working to support their members at Debenhams, and the concessions operating within the stores as they were informed yesterday that they are at risk of redundancy

Arcadia, which owns Wallis, Dorothy Perkins & Miss Selfridge have informed staff members, who have been on paid leave, since the Covid 19 restrictions came into force, that as Debenhams is now closed and a liquidator appointed that their situation has changed.

Debenhams has already informed its 1500 staff members in Ireland that it is insolvent and unable to pay it's debts and doesn't expect its Irish stores to reopen - a move which directly impacts 330 staff in Cork.

Speaking to RedFM News Lorraine O'Brien of Mandate clarified the situation facing the workers in the concessions in Debenhams Patrick Street and Mahon Point outlets.

"In accordance with the legislation Arcadia are now obliged to enter a 30 day consultation with their workforce, and during that period they will consider what options are available.

"There could be redeployment, there could be transfer options to other parts of their business and other locations, or there could be redundancy situations.

"It's a bit too early yet to preempt what the outcome of that process might be."
