Marymount Hospice says the pandemic could result in a shortfall of €1 million in donations.

The charity is marking its 150th year in 2020, however the Covid outbreak has forced the cancellation of a large number of fund raising events including their annual on street Sunflower Day earlier this month which usually raises €100,000.

Over €3.5 million is needed to fund the care service every year, with several people organising online fundraisers for the hospice since restrictions were introduced in March.

Speaking to RedFM News, Head of Fundraising and Communications at Marymount Paula McGovern says their fundraising efforts are continuing despite the pandemic.

"what we are doing in the meantime is doing a lot of online events and online appeals, and they have been really really successful.

"That is down to the people of Cork, who have as always come behind Marymount to support it.

"So you've had really nice initiatives and appeals and they've done very well, and we're very appreciative of that.

"But yet there's no denying that the impact of Covid-19 has had a huge effect on fundraising in Marymount."
