Organised indoor events and mass gatherings can resume today, as part of a significant easing of Covid restrictions.

They can operate at 60% capacity if all adults are fully vaccinated, or have recovered from the virus.

Vaccination uptake in Cork is around 94%

Live music also returns to bars and weddings, while all religious ceremonies can go ahead with 50% capacity.

And the cap on outdoor events rises to 75% - if all adults are immune to Covid.

Government chief whip and sports minister, Jack Chambers, says it's a landmark day.

"Today is a really significant and important day for the public really, seeing the benefit of the vaccination rollout and the protection it gives us.

"People are able to see this new normal, and they can experience activities that they haven't been able to do over the last number of months.

"It's obviously the first phase of moving from regulating the management of covid to it being up to people, and personal responsibility."
