The use of predictive grades to assess Leaving Cert students will be discussed at a meeting today.
The state exam is due to start on July 29th, but the Irish Independent says they may still be abandoned.
Seamus Lahart, president of the Teachers Union of Ireland, is among the groups attending today's meeting with the department.
He says health and safety's a major concern.
'We are working to faciltitate the exams on the 29th of July, but that is predicated by the health advisors advising us that it is safe to do so.
"And given that the health authority are only able to extend that advice two to three weeks in the future, we still are uncertain about that health advice being available to us."
