A Cork TD says he'll be requesting amendments to anti-eviction legislation that is due to be signed into law amid the COVID19 outbreak.

Solidarity's Mick Barry says while the planned freeze on evictions for 90 days is welcome it doesn't go far enough.

Anyone who has been issued an eviction notice will now have an additional 90 days added to notice period.

Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork's RedFM Cork TD Mick Barry says more can be done to help renters through the crisis.

"We will be pressing amendments to say that people who have been affected by the crisis and have lost income or have been laid off as a result that rents in those cases should be waived or at the very least reduced for the duration of the crisis.

"Bear in mind that many of the landlords whose properties have mortgages will benefit from the mortgage holiday that was agreed with the five big banks."
