The Minister for Education has been urged to clarify whether or not schools will be able to re-open in January amid the very high Covid rates in Ireland.

As speculation mounts that more restrictions may be introduced in the New Year - Sinn Fein TD Louise O'Reilly says parents need clarity as soon as possible.

The Dublin Fingal TD says the Minister for Education needs to clearly outline whether or not schools can re-open after the Christmas break:

"Pretty soon the focus is going to shift to the school situation and whether or not the schools will be reopening. Minister Foley, she's going to have to answer hard questions about the situation in the schools, what assistance has been given to make the schools as safe as possible for the pupils, for the teachers, for the parents at the school gate. All of those things will have to be answered."
