A record of nearly 654,000 people are waiting for their first hospital outpatient appointment.

It's an increase of over 41-thousand on a year ago.

Nearly 910,000 people are on some form of waiting list , which is also a record.

Dr Martin Daly, a former president of the Irish Medical Organisation, says the problem's not only down to the pandemic.

"Unfortunately, this issue, pre exists Covid. Covid Simply crystallised out, the lack of capacity within our health services, and now we're playing catch up again, we seem to limp year to year, trying to get ahead of waiting lists, and at the same time, these waiting lists, reflect, a great deal of pain and suffering for individual patients."
