A north Cork man who is stuck in Peru due to COVID 19 restrictions has expressed serious concern after a hostel down the street from him has gone into strict lockdown
Andrew Cotter from Mitchelstown and his girlfriend Marie Barry from Conna have been stranded in the city of Cuscu since Peruvian authorities introduced comprehensive measures to stop the spread of Covid-19.
Andrew contacted RedFM News today to highlight how a hostel near him has gone into lockdown for up to three months after two residents tested positive for Covid-19. An Irish citizen is said to be in the hostel which has been shut down and surrounded by armed police and soliders. The residents have been warned that they face up to 10 years in jail if they fail to comply with the quarantine.
The Department of Foreign Affairs has chartered an Aer Lingus plane to fly 135 Irish citizens home from the country, however some are unable to get to the capital Lima.
The Department has also said they are waiting for authories in Peru to give them permission to fly there.
Speaking to RedFM News from Peru overnight, Andrew outlines how the situation has unfolded:
