The current restrictions are due to be lifted on December 1st
The average number of daily cases is almost half what it was three weeks ago, while the 14 day incidence rate estimated to be 202 per 100 thousand people.
Non-essential retailers had hoped they would be allowed reopen earlier due to the progress that has been made to suppress the virus.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan says when restrictions are eased compliance will need to remain high:
"Even after we get to the first of December, government will decide what measures would need to apply after that point. We are going to need to have a high level of compliance, first and foremost on the part of individuals and families in the community with all the advice that we're giving and then supported by any measures that the government has in place."
