The number of Covid patients in public hospitals has fallen to the lowest level this year.
The figure dropped to 678 last night - over a fifth less than a week ago.
It exceeded 1,000 at the peak of the Omicron wave earlier this month.
Dr Denis McCauley, from the Irish Medical Organisation, says the country's on the right track.
"The Omicron variant is very much more an actual community based infection rather than a hospital based infection.
"I think the only aspect is that the people who are going into hospital are the people who are immunocompromised or are not vaccinated, but the rest of the news is good, and bar a new variant coming I think we are on the right track."
