The number of uninsured vehicles on Irish roads increased by almost 14,000 last year.
One in every 13 private vehicles is uninsured, according to figures from the Motor Insurers Bureau of Ireland, which it says is a new record.
Figures are based on statistics from the Department of Transport on the number of cars taxed compared to the number of cars insured.
The MIBI is funded by insurance companies, which means that €30 to €35 is added to an average premium.
