The Back to School clothing and footwear allowance is worth 150 euro for a child aged between 4 to 11, and 275 euro for 12 to 22-year-olds.
The government is to treble its investment into the Back to School Allowance and allow parents on the Pandemic Unemployment Payment to apply for it.
115 thousand families benefited form the scheme last year at a cost of 53.7 million - rising to just under 153 million this year.
274 thousand people are currently on the pandemic payment.
