A elderly woman from the east of the country died within the past 24 hours.
She had an underlying medical condition and was being treated in hospital.
Nine new cases have also been confirmed, bringing the total infected to 43.
Chief Medical Officer Tony Holohan extended his condolences to the family this evening.
