The number of people in hospital with Covid has dropped by almost a quarter in just over a week.
Latest figures show 815 are receiving treatment, that's down 23% on a recent peak of 1,055 recorded on July 11th.
Yesterday the Tanaiste Leo Varadkar said the country had now passed the peak of the summer wave.
Infectious diseases consultant at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, Eoghan DeBarra, is hopeful that's the case.
"Of course with any of the waves we only really know when we have consistent falls in numbers.
"As we know at the moment we don't have anywhere like the levels of surveillance that we had in the past to be really sure.
"However, I'd certainly be optimistic in the hope that is the case."
