Positive antigen test results could be added to official Covid-19 figures.
The Business Post is reporting today that Cabinet is set to consider the move when it meets this week, as the PCR system has been overwhelmed by the Omicron variant.
People will be able to register their positive antigen test on the HSE website from this week, under plans announced on Friday.
People Before Profit TD, Brid Smith, says the government needs to supply more antigen tests to help fight the Omicron variant:
"They need to ramp up the provision of these tests. If it is possible for the private sector to do, then the state needs to invest heavily and make sure that they mobilise all their resources to provide the testing that's required."
