A public health expert predicts the Omicron variant will overtake Delta in Ireland.
Six cases of Omicron have been identified in the Republic so far and 4,115 new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed.
It comes as passengers coming from Britain are now advised to take antigen tests for five consecutive days, after they arrive.
Professor of Medicine and Infectious Disease at UCD, Jack Lambert says antigen tests have a role to play:
"If you're incubating the virus, it would likely be picked up in those antigen tests in the first five days. So I think if you can all symptoms obviously should go there check. If you come back from one of those countries, antigen tests are one way of decreasing the risk of somebody bringing in the virus who are asymptomatic."
