78 people with the virus are being treated in hospital and 22 patients are in intensive care.
Professor of Public Health at UCC, Ivan Perry, says the easing of restrictions in the UK tomorrow won't help the soaring infections here:
"There's an open border, typically between the two countries and with, with minimal if, if any controls on on traffic between Ireland and the UK and so we are probably much cost in the collateral damage as it were from the current reckless UK policy."
