Schools given autonomy on how to assess Junior Cert students

Schools have been given the choice on how to assess students due to sit the Junior Cert.

Plans for written class-based tests in the new school year have been abandoned.

Every student will now get a "certificate of completion" and a teacher report based on their performance over first, second and third year.

Education Minister Joe McHugh says schools will be able to set further assessments if it's needed:
