Secondary school teachers have expressed concern at the growing numbers of Covid cases as students prepare to return to school.
Education Minister Norma Foley and public health officials are due to meet early next week before schools return on Thursday.
The President of the Association of Secondary Teachers in Ireland, Eamon Dennehy says schools must be safe for both teachers and pupils:
"Well, there is concern about that. Our objective always would be to try to keep the schools open but they have to be safe in order for that to happen. And there is, indeed, concern among our membership with regard to the rising numbers."
